US Open round 4 predictions & picks

Sevastova Konta prediction

US Open review and round 4 picks & predictions:

This year’s US Open has not been without surprises so far and even if most of the big names are still in the mix there’s been a couple of big upsets. One of the big favourites to win the women’s tournament world no.3 Garbine Muguruza was defeated in straight sets in the second round by rank 48th Anastasija Sevastova. In the mens tournament world no.9 Marin Cilic got defeated in the third round versus Jack Sock with 3-0 in sets after winning the first two rounds with 3-0 in sets.

Another big upset was rank 6th Milos Raonic getting dropped in the second round by rank 120th Ryan Harrison with 3-1 in sets. However it would seem that Novak Djokovic is out of his slump and aiming for yet another grand slam final, most likely versus Andy Murray who’s yet to drop a set in the tournament.

Furthermore it would seem that Serena Williams have recovered from her shoulder injury that haunted her at the Cincinnati Masters event as she has absolutely dominated her first games and with Muguruza out Serena’s chances to win another title just sky rocketed.

US Open round 4 picks & predictions:

Here are some of the picks that we here at Bettingviking consider to be the best picks for the 4th round. To see our winner predictions for the whole tournament and to get some possible picks to reach the finals or win the tournament check out our US Open 2016 preview here.

US Open round 4 predictions

Novak Djokovic vs Kyle Edmund prediction:

The viking’s prediction for this fixture is that Djokovic will dominate Edmund. Novak has gotten a lucky start to the tournament with Vesely leaving a WO in the second round and Youzhny retiring at the 6th game of the match in the third one. The two have faced each other one time earlier which was earlier this year, a match that ended 6-3,6-3 in favor of Djokovic.

Kyle Edmund did defeat both Gasquet and Isner, only dropping one set but against a well-rested Djokovic he should stand no chance what so ever.

Novak Djokovic to win with 3 – 0 @ 1.55

Novak Djokovic to win with 3 – 0 @ -180

Rafael Nadal vs Lucas Pouille prediction:

The viking’s prediction for this fixture is that the match will go over at least 3.5 sets. Even though Nadal has won every match so far in the tournament with 3-0 and Pouille has played almost 2/3 sets more than him we should not forget that Pouille is one of the underdogs that the experts thought would go far in this tournament, Lucas did reach the quarters of this year’s Wimbledon and when doing so he defeated Del Potro among others.

It’s also good to remember that Nadal is coming from a wrist injury and did have to take a break for several weeks before the Olympics. It’s also worth to note that Nadal did get destroyed at the Cincinnati Master, loosing in the second round with 6-1, 6-3 to Borna Coric. It could be smart to place a small unit play on Pouille in this fixture just for the value and hope that Nadal is feeling his wrist (something which is possible due to the intensity of a grand slam).

Over 3.5 sets @ +175

Nadal vs Edmund prediction

Madison Keys vs Caroline Wozniacki prediction:

The viking’s prediction for this game is an easy victory for Madison Keys. The rank 9 american has had quite an impressive season and is one of the favourites to at least reach the semi-finals. The odds on Keys are a bit high and as such the straight out winner pick holds quite a bit of value, making this a perfect banker pick to slam quite a bit of money on.

Madison keys to win @ 1.47

Madison keys to win @ -210

Petra Kvitova vs Angelique Kerber prediction:

This is one of the biggest fixtures of the 4th round of the women’s tournament, featuring two of the big favourites still in the tournament. Kvitova who has been struggling throughout the whole season finally seems to have made a comeback to the top tier of the WTA following a great Olympic performance that ended in a bronze medal, defeating Madison Keys in the bronze match.

Kerber and Kvitova have faced each other several times before and they’re currently 4-4 in head to head matches. However Kerber has won both of their two most recent matches (WTA Championship 2015 and WTA Stuttgart semi-final).

Angelique Kerber on the other hand has climbed the rankings and is just a few points behind Serena to make the world no.1 place, something that will have her more motivated than any other player in this tournament. Pair that with an Australian Open title, a Wimbledon final, an Olympic silver aswell as several other titles on the WTA tour and you get the picture just how good Kerber is this season.

Kerber’s head to head results versus Kvitova aswell as the chance of becoming 1st on the WTA rankings aswell as her superior shape this season makes us here at Bettingviking think that Kerber to win this fixture is one of the best bets so far of the 2016 US Open.

Angelique Kerber to win @ 1.46

Angelique Kerber to win @ -220

Kerber vs Kvitova prediction

Johanna Konta vs Anastasija Sevastova prediction:

Yet another interesting fixture and the viking’s prediction for this match is that it ends in over 2 sets. Konta has had quite a good season and quite recently beat Venus Williams for the WTA Stanford title. On the other hand we have Sevastova who will have the confidence boost of defeating Muguruza in straight sets earlier in the tournament.

If you’re looking for pure value in this match then consider taking Sevastova as the out right winner of the match just for the juice.

US Open 2016 tennis preview & predictions

Novak Djokovic US open 2016 preview

US Open tennis 2016 preview:

The 2016 US Open starts tomorrow 29th of august over in New York at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and the viking is here with some pre-tournament predictions and betting advice for you guys. Roger Federer will not be able to attend in this year’s tournament following a problematic knee injury earlier this year, the men’s bracket is stacked however with world no.1 Novak Djokovic, runner up and Wimbledon winner Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Stanislas Wawrinka aswell as all the other big ATP names. Djoker are the favourite to win the mens bracket, but after dropping out versus Juan Martin Del Potro in the first round of the Olympics is that the correct winners pick? The latter went on to the finals against Andy Murray where Juan Martin lost with 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.

In the women’s tournament Maria Sharapova is still suspended from WTA play following her suspension due to doping at Australian Open, Sharapova’s appeal is set in september and thus she’s out regardless if she’s granted the appeal or not. The WTA’s biggest star Serena Williams had to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters due to a shoulder injury, with the ladies bracket stacked aswell will she be able to reclaim her title and get her revenge after being so close to a true major (winning all majors in the same year) last year or will she finally drop her number one rank to Angelique Kerber.

With a lot of questions soon to be answered and 3.5 million dollars on the line the 2016 US Open provides us with a lot of nice betting opportunities and profits to be made. For specific match predictions be sure to bookmark our blog or follow us on Twitter to get daily updates on the best US Open picks.

Novak Djokovic US open 2016 preview

US Open 2016 men predictions & picks:

Novak Djokovic:

The current world no.1 have looked as if he has been struggling these last couple of months. After winning the australian open he continued to complete his career grand slam (winning all grand slam titles) at the French Open, but after that the serb hasn’t been his dominant self and dropped out early at Wimbledon just to lose in the first round of the Olympics to Juan Martin Del Potro.

However Nole himself has stated that he’s still at the peak of his career heading into the US Open and the reigning champion is a sure pick to win the title. In order to reach the finals Djokovic could face Gasquet/Isner and then Cilic in the quarters and Nadal in the semis if all players are able to advance to that particular stage. If we see a classic Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic final then it should be worth to consider that Novak has beaten Andy in two grand slam finals this year and the two titles that Andy did win (Wimbledon and singles gold in Rio) was when Novak was eliminated early in the tournaments.

Novak Djokovic will be coming into the tournament with 4 victories and 1 defeat in his latest 5 ATP singles matches.

Odds:

Novak Djokovic to win the 2016 US Open title @ 1.90  Nordicbet sportsbook

Novak Djokovic to win the 2016 US Open title @ +120 Bovada Sportsbook

Andy Murray:

Andy Murray has had one of the best streaks in his career and he has shown that he can be consistent when it matters. Andy has been in every grand slam final this year and won one of them (Wimbledon), loosing to Djokovic in the other two. Andy then proceeded to win the singles gold medals at the Rio Olympics when he beat Juan Martin Del Potro in the finals.

The question here for Andy is if his recent success is connected to Roger Federer’s knee injury and Novak Djokovic’s recent slump. The US Open will serve as Andy’s final proving ground if he can manage to win yet another grand slam this year and in doing so prove that he can surpass Novak Djokovic. Murray could face Nishikori and Wawrinka later on in the tournament if all players advance to that stage.

Andy Murray will be coming into this tournament with 4 victories and 1 defeat in his latest 5 ATP singles matches, having lost to Marin Cilic in the finals of the Cincinnati Masters.

Odds:

Andy Murray to win the 2016 US Open title @ 3.00  Nordicbet sportsbook

Andy Murray to win the 2016 US Open title @ +175 Bovada Sportsbook

Rafael Nadal:

The Spaniard have only claimed two titles so far this year but he’s still one of the world’s best players. Nadal’s performance at the Rio Olympics where he placed fourth in the mens singles and took the gold in the mens doubles suggests that he will be an opponent that the top tier players will have to watch out for. However if Nadal should reach the semis then it’s quite likely that he will face off versus Djokovic, a match up that Nadal has lost the last 9 out of 10 times.

Rafael Nadal will be coming into this tournament with 2 victories and 3 defeats in his latest 5 ATP singles matches.

Odds:

Rafael Nadal to win the 2016 US Open title @ 21.00  Nordicbet sportsbook

Rafael Nadal to win the 2016 US Open title @ +1800 Bovada Sportsbook

Marin Cilic:

The rank 9 Marin Cilic is another contender for the title at this US Open, he has shown throughout the season that he’s able to both challenge and win against the likes of Federer and Andy Murray. He manage to take his match against Roger Federer to 5 sets in the Wimbledon quarter-finals and in the Cincinnati Masters finals he managed to beat Andy Murray in straight sets. Marin have struggled against Novak though whom have defeated him in straight sets in their 3 latest meetings, if both players reach the quarters where they will face each other then this will serve as a perfect revenge opportunity for Cilic as Novak knocked him out of the tournament last year in the semis with 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.

Marin Cilic will be coming into this tournament with 5 straight victories in his latest 5 ATP singles matches. All of those victories are from the Cincinnati Masters event where he beat Andy Murray, Thomas Berdych, and Grigor Dimitrov among others.

Odds:

Marin Cilic to win the 2016 US Open title @ 25.00  Nordicbet sportsbook

Marin Cilic to win the 2016 US Open title @ +2500 Bovada Sportsbook

Juan Martin Del Potro:

Juan Martin Del Potro stunned the tennis scene with his return to professional play at the start of this year. He has since then  managed to push himself to the top and has beat Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka in the process. Del Potro has also managed to take the silver medal at the Rio Olympics.

Del Potro will be coming into this tournament with 4 victories and 1 defeat in his latest 5 ATP singles matches.

Odds:

Juan Martin Del Potro to win the 2016 US Open title @ 17.50  Nordicbet sportsbook

Juan Martin Del Potro 2016 US Open title @ +1600 Bovada Sportsbook

The viking’s pick:

Our pick for this year’s tournament is Andy Murray at 3.00, the viking’s prediction is that he will at least reach the finals with his recent consistent performance in mind and if Djokovic manages to meet him there then it will be a match where he has everything to prove and Djokovic has everything to lose.

Andy Murray Us Open 2016 prediction

US Open 2016 women predictions & picks:

Serena Williams:

Serena Williams has had quite a good season this year but not one of her best as she started the year with two grand slam finals loss. First versus one of her big rivals Angelique Kerber at the Australian Open and then at the French Open versus Garbine Muguruza to whom she lost in straight sets. Though Serena managed to rebound and defeated Angelique at Wimbledon.

Post-Wimbledon Serena has been struggling though and first lost in the R16 of the Rio Olympics to Elina Svitolina and after that she had to pull out from the Cincinnati Masters event due to a shoulder injury. Williams will need beat Angelique Kerber as a potential final loss to Kerber would mean that she drops to rank 2 of the WTA.

Serena Williams will be coming into this tournament with 4 victories and 1 defeat in her latest 5 WTA singles matches.

Odds:

Serena Williams to win the 2016 US Open title @ 2.30  Nordicbet sportsbook

Serena Williams to win the 2016 US Open title @ +125 Bovada Sportsbook

Angelique Kerber:

Angelique Kerber has had a great season as she’ve managed to drop from rank 10 to rank 2 during the year. In the process of climbing the WTA ladder she has also won the Australian Open aswell as reached the finals at Wimbledon. In addition to all this she also managed to reach the finals at the Rio Olympics where she lost to Monica Puig with 4-6, 6-4, 1-6. Kerber also managed to reach the finals at the Cincinnati Masters where she lost to Karolina Pliskova in straight sets with 3-6, 1-6.

Kerber is currently looking as one of the most consistent players of the top-10 and will be coming into this tournament with 4 victories and 1 defeat in her latest 5 WTA singles matches.

Odds:

Angelique Kerber to win the 2016 US Open title @ 10.00  Nordicbet sportsbook

Angelique Kerber to win the 2016 US Open title @ +900 Bovada Sportsbook

Garbine Muguruza:

Garbine made a name for herself last year when she was recognized as the big star of the future after a fantastic season which made our readers a lot of money (click the Garbine Muguruza tag to view previous previews & predictions with her). She continued that run this year when she won the French Open and headed into Wimbledon ranked 2nd in the WTA with a chance to get the first spot from Serena.

Garbine was shocked by Jana Cepelova in that grand slam however and dropped out in the second round. She then went on to Rio where she lost to the gold medalist Monica Puig early on in the tournament, though the WTA community is waiting for her to yet again show why she will become the next world no.1 and this could prove to be the perfect opportunity.

Odds:

Garbine Muguruza to win the 2016 US Open title @ 8.00  Nordicbet sportsbook

Garbine Muguruza to win the 2016 US Open title @ +900 Bovada Sportsbook

The viking’s pick:

The viking’s pick for to win the women’s US Open 2016 is Angelique Kerber. Our prediction for the final is Kerber vs Muguruza, with Serena’s recent injury in mind she feels like to much of a wild card to hold any betting value. Some other notable mentions for the women’s bracket are Simona Halep and Madison Keys who could both upset the favourites.

Serena Williams vs Ekaterina Makarova prediction

Ekaterina Makarova Serena Williams Prediction

Serena Williams vs Ekaterina Makarova, US OPEN WTA 2016-08-30:

The US Open women’s first round offers a nice banker bet as the rank 36 olympic gold medalist Ekaterina Makarova tries to take on the all time best female tennis player Serena Williams. The 2016 US Open will be a perfect revenge opportunity for Serena as she almost accomplished a “true major” (winning Wimbledon, Australian Open, French Open and US Open in the same year) at the 2015 US Open. Having won all the 3 previous majors that year Serena lost in the semis to Roberta Vinci with (6-2, 6-3, 6-3).

Ekaterina Makarova will be coming into this match with 3 victories and 2 defeats in her latest 5 WTA singles matches. Makarova has also just won an Olympic gold medal in the Womens doubles in Rio with Elena Vesnina. Makarova is known for setting up her opponents into unusual positions with her serves and then finishing her service games by out maneuvering her opponent.

Serena Williams will be coming into this match with 4 victories and 1 defeat in her latest 5 singles matches. Serena has already won 1 major this year and has made it to the finals in the other 2, as such she is as always considered a heavy favourite to both reach the finals and to win the event. Williams did drop out of the olympics in the R16 against Elina Svitolina (6-4, 6-3), however having already won 4 olympic gold medals and with last year’s US Open in mind it’s safe to say that her focus has probably been on this event and not the olympics. Serena William’s play style is rather similar to that of Makarova however being known to be the WTA player with the most powerful strokes she uses that to her advantage in favor of tactical movement.

Prediction:

The viking’s prediction for this game is a straight set victory for Serena Williams. If Serena is in one of her famous bad modes then she might drop a set but she has a winner personality and will be determined to win this year’s US Open at all cost. The odds on Serena in this match is a bit high and it’s most likely due to the confidence boost that comes with Makarova’s recent gold medal.

Makarova has won against Serena one time at the Australian Open back in 2012, however Serena has won the other 4 matches in which they’ve faced off, including their most recent match at the 2014 US Open Semi finals. It should be noted that in all of their 5 fixtures no match have ever gone to 3 sets, they’ve all been won in straight sets.

Ivo Karlovic vs Yen-Hsun Lu prediction

Ivo Karlovic Yen-Hsun Lu prediction

Ivo Karlovic vs Yen-Hsun Lu, US OPEN ATP 2016-08-30:

Time for some more first round value bets from the US Open. The veteran fixture between 37 year old Ivo Karlovic and 33 year old Yen-Hsun Lu serves us one of the biggest value bets of the first round of the 2016 US Open.

Ivo Karlovic will be coming into this fixture with 2 losses and 3 victories in his latest 5 ATP singles matches. His most recent loss was versus Roberto Bautista Agut (6-3, 6-2, Agut later went on the be the runner up in the finals)  in the quarter finals of the Winston-Salem event. The titan Karlovic (2.11m tall) utilizes his famous serve with his serve-volley play style and he’s consistent in reaching the 6th game when struggling, his biggest weakness is when facing players who can work the quickly court and pull out unusual moves.

Yen-Hsun Lu will be coming into this fixture with 4 victories and 1 loss, winning the Los Cabos event as he defeated Feliciano Lopez in straight sets. Lu then lost in the first round in the Cincinnati Masters main event versus Juan Monaco (6-4, 6-4). The Chinese Taipei player is known for his goal to be the first Chinese Taipei man in the top 10 of the ATP rankings. To achieve this he has a reputation of being a hard worker and is known for his consistent play style, giving his best in every game of the match. However Yen-Hsun Lu lacks a powerful serve and a special move and as such he often struggles against the very top-tier of the ATP.

Ivo Karlovic and Yen-Hsun Lu have faced each other 7 times before with Karlovic winning 5 out of those matches. Their most recent meeting was in 2014 at the round 32 of the Shanghai Masters event, a match with ended 7-6, 6-3 in favor of Karlovic.

Prediction:

The viking’s prediction for this fixture is victory in over 3 sets for Ivo Karlovic. Even though both players fare well in 5 sets matches due to their consistency (in comparison to Gael Monfils and Stanislas Wawrinka who can pull out plays that even Roger or Novak can’t handle but whom still can drop out versus a sub-50 player) but Karlovic’s serve is extremely hard to handle, especially in a best of 5 set match.

The other good picks for this game is the over 44.0 games pick as at least 1 or 2 sets should go to tiebreak in typical Karlovic fashion. The over 3.5 sets pick is also a nice pick for this game as Yen-Hsun Lu is sure to pick up at least one set on sheer determination and will power.

Please note that this prediction features both us friendly odds from the us friendly sportsbook Bovada aswell as european odds from the international bookmaker Nordicbet.
