Djokovic vs Wawrinka US Open final preview & prediction

US OPEN final prediction

US Open final preview & prediction Novak Djokovic vs Stanislas Wawrinka:

It was an explosive friday yesterday with all of our main predictions hitting in the semifinals and now Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka will battle it out for the title in the 2016 US Open final. Both players have had a similar story in the tournament, being two big question marks for fans, bookmakers and punters. Novak Djokovic being in a slump was the talk of the tennis world after he dropped out in the first round at the Rio Olympics prior to getting knocked out in the third round of Wimbledon. Nole had also rumor of being injured for this tournament as he withdrew from the Cincinnati Masters due to a recurring wrist injury, however Djokovic got his way to the finals paved out for him as prior to the semis he had only played 10 sets in total. The viking predicted that we would see the Novak Djokovic vs Gael Monfils semi go over 3.5 sets and it did, though Novak looked to be back to his old dominating style and we’re sure that he’s out of his slump after that performance.

Stan “The man” Wawrinka haven’t had the best season either, though the competition in the ATP has grown fiercer this season with Del Potro, Nadal and a few others coming out big. Early on in the tournament we were sure that Wawrinka was going to get knocked out by one of the major underdogs, he had several showing weaknesses. However Wawrinka managed to fight back after round 4, first he used his strategizing play style to revenge on Juan Martin Del Potro who knocked him out from Wimbledon. Stan showed that he had been working on his forehand which had suffered in the previous rounds once he lost momentum. Stan was the underdog coming into the finals, when he as predicted by Bettingviking in our previous preview defeated Kei Nishikori. Wawrinka lost the first set but did something which he showed us in the Del Potro game aswell, he adapted and then gained back his momentum.

This is something that is key for Wawrinka as when he has momentum he can rival anyone in the ATP’s top 5 but when he loses it his focus is quick to follow with it and we see him loosing to sub top 10 players. What Wawrinka has shown in these matches is that he has improved his willpower and that he’s capable of adapting to opponents mid-game to figure out a winning strategy and win momentum.

Djokovic vs Wawrinka head to head:

“Djoker” and “Stan the man” have faced each other 25 times before dating back to 2004 and as such this is quite a classic matchup in the biggest tournaments of the ATP tour. Novak leads their head to head record with a whopping 21-4, however they’ve only faced off in one grand slam final prior to this one and that was in last years French Open final. A match that Wawrinka managed to win with 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

In that final we saw Wawrinka doing the exact same thing that he did versus Kei in the semis here at US Open, he lost the first set and then adapted and capitalized on Djokovic’s momentum by using one of his greatest strengths; Hitting ground strokes around the court to get Djoko tired.

US Open final prediction, Wawrinka vs Djokovic:

The viking’s prediction for this US Open final between Stanislas Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic is a victory for Wawrinka in over 3 sets. Novak will be more rested than Wawrinka and as such fatigue wont be an issue for him but his wrists problems prior to the tournament is something that Stanislas is more than likely to try and abuse in his game plan. We think that for Wawrinka it’s more in reaching the finals than the final itself, once he’s there his self confidence and momentum is at it’s peak and he’s able to play to his full extent. Novak Djokovic on the other seems to always be at his full extent (with the exception of his previous slump), sure he can kick it up one level or two as we’ve seen in the classic Federer vs Djokovic grand slam finals but those finals are more than finals for Djokovic as it’s his chance to prove to the world who the true world no.1 is and that’s
something that’s sure to give him extra motivation.

They key here for Wawrinka will be the first sets, if he loses the first set he will need to comebacNovak djokovis vs stanislas wawrinka prediction & previewk with a plan that allows him to get an advantage. However this is not the easiest task versus a player like Djokovic who just seems to hit perfect balls on every stroke in just about every game he has played. This is however Wawrinka’s final to win with the personal journey he has done with his motivation and game during the tournament. We should expect Wawrinka to be at the top of his game and even if he drops the first set, he’ll have a chance to win this final.

The other good picks for this match are the over 3.5 sets pick and the over 39.5 games pick. The over 3.5 sets pick holds EXTREME value as it’s very unlikely that either player takes this 3-0, that pick should be at 1.10 not 1.50.

We’ve also compiled some tips for live betting on this match at the bottom of this page.

Live betting tips for the US Open final 2016:

  • Watch the final live for both the entertainment and in order to capitalize on our tips here.
  • If Wawrinka looses the first set, watch the first games in the second set and look for changes in his play. Is he trying to use the court to his advantage? If Wawrinka succeeds with a new gameplan he typically plays at his top level and he could take that set very fast. Slam the second set winner line if you notice this.
  • Look for changes in Wawrinka’s momentum, when he starts to loose his focus he usually hits his forehand strokes in the net early on in the game. Livebet a few point winners on Djokovic, maybe even the game if it’s his serve.
  • Wawrinka will show that he has regained his momentum by making a finger to the head gesture, when he does this he usually have his focus back and you could try betting on a few points or even a break.
  • Watch Djokovic’s wrist and facial expressions, Wawrinka will push him to give everything he’s got and this could mean that his previous injury starts to hurt again from getting overworked. If this happens Wawrinka will notice aswell and hit hard strokes back at him, if you see this SLAM the Wawrinka winner line.

US Open Semifinals preview & predictions

Wawrinka vs Nishikori preview

US Open Semifinals preview & predictions:

The 2016 US Open semifinals are upon us and the stakes couldn’t be higher for world no.1 Djokovic to prove that he is back as he was “handed” yet another walk over/retire match as Tsonga was suffering from a knee injury and had to retire in the second set. His opponent here in the semis Gael Monfils put on a huge upset 3-0 win over Loucas Pouille who had knocked out Rafael Nadal in the previous round. Both the Monfils match and what proved to be the best match of the quarters (namely Wawrinka vs Del Potro) showed us a valuable point to consider when betting on these matches; fatigue.

Pouille lacked energy in his game and wasn’t as fast as he usually is which meant that Monfils could simply lob the ball over him when they met close to the net. In the Del Potro vs Wawrinka match Del Potro got the upper hand early but Wawrinka managed to win momentum and reach his unstoppable style where he can rival anyone. Stanislas managed to utilize Del Potro’s weak backhand to win easy points and as Del Potro tried to counter with slicing the ball back to recover his position he had to run quite a lot. After loosing the third set to Wawrinka it was clearly showing that Del Potro was tired in his legs and that in conjunction with loss of momentum gave Wawrinka his first impressive victory of the tournament.

Now there was one more major event that occurred in the quarters, Kei Nishikori managed to beat the world no.2 (and possibly currently the best player in the world) Andy Murray in 5 sets with 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. This match showcased one of the biggest factors to look at when live betting on tennis; Momentum. Murray started of the match by winning 5 straight games, ending the first set with 1-6. However the second set had multiple rain delays and while the match was paused Nishikori had the time to reset and regain his momentum. The break of the second set showed us yet another important factor to look at; focus. Murray was down 4-5 serving for the tie as he lost his focus and threw away the game. Andy regained it quickly though and was up 2-1 heading into the fourth set when yet another misfortunate event happened; The set was tied at 1-1 with Murray at break point as the umpire made the decision to replay the point due to the loud crowd. After this Murray completely lost his focus and Kei went on to win the set 6-1 and the next one 7-5.

US OPEN Semifinals prediction

US Open Semifinals predictions:

Now we mentioned three important things to think about from the quarterfinals and those were focus, momentum and fatigue. Three things that doesn’t directly correlate to skill but they are key when predicting matches in grand slams like the 2016 US Open. Playing up to five sets every day for a week is something that can and will take a toll on both the body and the mind of the players.

Novak Djokovic vs Gael Monfils prediction:

This should prove to be a very though fixture for the Frenchman Monfils as he has faced Djokovic 12 times prior to this one, a head to head which Djokovic leads with 12 to 0. This will be Monfils first grand slam semifinal in his 12 years of pro action, something which is sure to contribute to his spirit for this match. Though even if Monfils is close to the grand slam final benchmark, this looks like an easy victory for Djokovic. With Federer injured and Murray out in the quarters all of his greatest rivals are out and with that in mind it’s almost certain that Djokovic will have his mindset on winning yet another title. In addition to having won all of their previous meetings and being the superior player Djokovic will have the fatigue advantage as he have only played two full matches so far in the tournament, in fact he has only played 10 sets in total.  Compare that to Monfils 15 sets and you get quite a clear picture of who will have the most energy for the match.

US OPEN semifinals preview

Fact: Monfils did actually managed to beat Djokovic back in 2004, but in a futures match

The viking’s prediction for this match is a victory for Novak Djokovic, however the odds on him are at the correct value. We suggest that you consider a small unit play on Gael Monfils on the off chance that he wants to add a potential grand slam title to his legacy of being one of the most entertaining tennis players in history with his trick shots and energy. The picks that makes the most sense is the over 35.5 games pick (has a chance to hit even at 3 sets) and the over 3.5 sets pick as Djokovic injured wrist rumors (prior to the tournament) and Monfils potential legacy win must be taken into account here.

Bet on our recommended picks here:

Over 35.5 games @ 1.15

Over 35.5 games win @ -750

Stanislas Wawrinka vs Kei Nishikori prediction:

This is probably one of the hardest matches to predict of the tournament as Stan Wawrinka holds the upper hand in terms of pure skill and strategy. Though Nishikori isn’t far behind and he has looked way better than Wawrinka in the tournament so far. The duo has a head to head record of 3-2 in favor of “Stan the man” but Nishikori won their most recent fixture with 7-6, 6-1 at the quarters of the Canadian Masters two months ago.

We doubted Stan at the quarters due to his very lackluster performance in the first rounds but he proved that with his ability to strategize and use the court to his advantage he can be unstoppable. This is also Stans greatest strength as he’s able to get his opponent in a really bad position and then use his great play to take easy points, pair this with a strong serve and overall great skill. However being a very aggressive player Stan is prone to make mistakes at times and his results usually correlate to his momentum which often makes him drop focus and throw away points or makes him absolutely dominate the very elite of the tennis world.

Kei Nishikori has a bit similar play style to Wawrinka and is an aggressive player himself, however he utilizes speed to get into great positions and finish off his opponents. Nishikori has shown this tournament that he can handle a wide variety of skill sets; defeating Karlovic in straight sets and overcoming Murray, two very different players.

The key point for this match will be momentum, Nishikori will need to make a few smart plays to get Stan to drop his momentum and then get him into tilting mode. Stan on the other hand could out strategize Nishikori and make him run to much in the opening sets. The viking’s prediction for this match is a victory for Wawrinka as he will have his fire back after defeating Del Potro, Stan frequently put his finger against his head to show Del Potro that he can’t get into his head and drop his momentum. After making that clear statement and then living up to it Stan is sure to have his spirits and focus at high levels.  We value both winner selections at about even odds. This means that there is positive value in betting on Stanislas which in turn means that it’s a very good bet in statistical terms.

US Open quarterfinals preview & predictions 2016

Us Open quarterfinals prediction

US Open quarterfinals preview & prediction:

This year’s US Open is progressing nicely and we’re already at the quarterfinals stage of the grand slam. The 4th round gave us a few upsets as Rafael Nadal fell under the pressure and lost to Loucas Pouille in an epic 5-set tiebreak, Nadal was down 2-1 in sets and it looked like it was over for Rafa but momentum shifted and Rafa took back the 4th set with 6-3, Pouille managed to fight back and won the match at 8-6 in the tiebreak. The highlights of the mens tournament were Djokovic, Murray and Nishikori. All three players put on impressive matches and they all won in straight sets. Andy Murray managed to defeat Grigor Dimitrov while only dropping 5 games in total, Kei Nishikori on the other hand showed that he is more than capable of dealing with niche players such as Ivo Karlovic as he countered Ivo’s serve with superior movement. The womens tournament gave us a few more upsets as Sevastova, Pliskova, Wozniacki and Konjuh managed to defeat some of the top ranked players in the WTA. The most notable match here was when Pliskova recovered a 6-4, 3-1 disadvantage against Venus Williams into a 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 victory. If you followed our tips for round 4 you would’ve hit 3/5 of the unit bets in addition to two upsets in Sevastova and Pouille.

Stanislas Wawrinka:

In addition to Venus Williams there was one other player that put on yet again an immensely underwhelming performance, namely: “Stan the man” Wawrinka. Stanislas has shown that he isn’t at his top level which is on par with Djokovic and Murray. Since his second round game versus Giannessi we’ve noticed that he’s struggling with his focus and as a result his forehand is suffering. Wawrinka barely made it through the third round after recovering from match point against Daniel Evans. These issues were yet again showing in the fourth round and Wawrinka dropped match point at straight sets versus Illya Marchenko even if he managed to regain focus in the fourth set which he won with 6-3 following a cheap break this is something which we recommend that you look for in Wawrinka’s upcoming matches. If you see him getting frustrated then back his opponent for the next game. Wawrinka is an aggressive player who uses the court to win advantages so these kind of situations are bound to happen, with this tip you could make quite a bit of money with some smart live betting.

Novak Djokovic vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga prediction:

This match will be the first real test of the tournament for Djokovic, who have had a cakewalk so far in the tournament and only played 7 sets in total. Tsonga on the other hand has not had the same luck but he has been quite convincing and only dropped 2 sets in 4 matches. This is a well tested fixture for the two players who’ve faced each other 21 times before. Djokovic has however dominated Tsonga as of late and won 11 out of their 12 latest matches, most of those victories without dropping a single set. The viking’s prediction for this match is an easy victory for Djokovic. Novak showed in his decisive victory that he’s back to his old level and he will be a lot more rested than Tsonga, something which is gigantic advantage in such an intense tournament as the US Open. Our recommendation is that you bet on Djokovic as a banker bet or an odds booster for a bigger coupon. If you’re looking for value then pick Djokovic to win in 3 sets.

Novak Djokovic to win @ 1.15

Novak Djokovic to win @ -750

Kei Nishikori vs Andy Murray prediction:

The fixture between Nishikori and Andy is yet another interesting one as it will be the first real test of the tournament for Murray aswell. Nishikori looked fantastic in his game versus Karlovic and managed to overcome Ivo and his impressive serve in 3 sets. Nishikori did however reveal a big weakness in that match as he dropped 4 straight points in the tiebreak after reaching match point at 6-0, if Andy can get Nishikori to drop his focus early then this could very well be a 3-0 Murray game. Not an easy task but Murray who has only dropped one set so far is looking like the best player of the tournament and he’s sure to be confident heading into the match with his recent Olympic gold and Wimbledon title in mind aswell as a 7-1 record over Nishikori. The viking’s prediction for this match is a straight set victory for Murray, simply because he’s looking like the world no.1 at the moment and he has every single advantage over Nishikori that one could have.

Andy Murray to win @ 1.16

Juan Martin Del Potro vs Stanislas Wawrinka prediction:

Juan Martin Del Potro has had a fantastic tournament so far and is taking this US Open by storm, he hasn’t dropped a single set so far which is something that even Murray or Djokovic haven’t managed. Del Potro who won the Olympic silver when he took on Murray defeated Wawrinka back at Wimbledon in 4 sets and the viking’s prediction for this match is that he will defeat in this match aswell. Del Potro has already won against both David Ferrer and Dominic Thiem, two players that were in this US Open with a shot at the title. In fact Del Potro didn’t drop a single set when doing so. Wawrinka on the other hand has as we mentioned earlier showed signs of weakness in almost every match of the tournament. This is a perfect opportunity to make a lot of money, bet BIG on Del Potro and thank us later on Twitter!

US Open round 4 predictions & picks

Sevastova Konta prediction

US Open review and round 4 picks & predictions:

This year’s US Open has not been without surprises so far and even if most of the big names are still in the mix there’s been a couple of big upsets. One of the big favourites to win the women’s tournament world no.3 Garbine Muguruza was defeated in straight sets in the second round by rank 48th Anastasija Sevastova. In the mens tournament world no.9 Marin Cilic got defeated in the third round versus Jack Sock with 3-0 in sets after winning the first two rounds with 3-0 in sets.

Another big upset was rank 6th Milos Raonic getting dropped in the second round by rank 120th Ryan Harrison with 3-1 in sets. However it would seem that Novak Djokovic is out of his slump and aiming for yet another grand slam final, most likely versus Andy Murray who’s yet to drop a set in the tournament.

Furthermore it would seem that Serena Williams have recovered from her shoulder injury that haunted her at the Cincinnati Masters event as she has absolutely dominated her first games and with Muguruza out Serena’s chances to win another title just sky rocketed.

Sevastova Konta prediction

US Open round 4 picks & predictions:

Here are some of the picks that we here at Bettingviking consider to be the best picks for the 4th round. To see our winner predictions for the whole tournament and to get some possible picks to reach the finals or win the tournament check out our US Open 2016 preview here.

US Open round 4 predictions

Novak Djokovic vs Kyle Edmund prediction:

The viking’s prediction for this fixture is that Djokovic will dominate Edmund. Novak has gotten a lucky start to the tournament with Vesely leaving a WO in the second round and Youzhny retiring at the 6th game of the match in the third one. The two have faced each other one time earlier which was earlier this year, a match that ended 6-3,6-3 in favor of Djokovic.

Kyle Edmund did defeat both Gasquet and Isner, only dropping one set but against a well-rested Djokovic he should stand no chance what so ever.

Novak Djokovic to win with 3 – 0 @ 1.55

Novak Djokovic to win with 3 – 0 @ -180

Rafael Nadal vs Lucas Pouille prediction:

The viking’s prediction for this fixture is that the match will go over at least 3.5 sets. Even though Nadal has won every match so far in the tournament with 3-0 and Pouille has played almost 2/3 sets more than him we should not forget that Pouille is one of the underdogs that the experts thought would go far in this tournament, Lucas did reach the quarters of this year’s Wimbledon and when doing so he defeated Del Potro among others.

It’s also good to remember that Nadal is coming from a wrist injury and did have to take a break for several weeks before the Olympics. It’s also worth to note that Nadal did get destroyed at the Cincinnati Master, loosing in the second round with 6-1, 6-3 to Borna Coric. It could be smart to place a small unit play on Pouille in this fixture just for the value and hope that Nadal is feeling his wrist (something which is possible due to the intensity of a grand slam).

Over 3.5 sets @ 2.30

Over 3.5 sets @ +175

Nadal vs Edmund prediction

Madison Keys vs Caroline Wozniacki prediction:

The viking’s prediction for this game is an easy victory for Madison Keys. The rank 9 american has had quite an impressive season and is one of the favourites to at least reach the semi-finals. The odds on Keys are a bit high and as such the straight out winner pick holds quite a bit of value, making this a perfect banker pick to slam quite a bit of money on.

Madison keys to win @ 1.47

Madison keys to win @ -210

Petra Kvitova vs Angelique Kerber prediction:

This is one of the biggest fixtures of the 4th round of the women’s tournament, featuring two of the big favourites still in the tournament. Kvitova who has been struggling throughout the whole season finally seems to have made a comeback to the top tier of the WTA following a great Olympic performance that ended in a bronze medal, defeating Madison Keys in the bronze match.

Kerber and Kvitova have faced each other several times before and they’re currently 4-4 in head to head matches. However Kerber has won both of their two most recent matches (WTA Championship 2015 and WTA Stuttgart semi-final).

Angelique Kerber on the other hand has climbed the rankings and is just a few points behind Serena to make the world no.1 place, something that will have her more motivated than any other player in this tournament. Pair that with an Australian Open title, a Wimbledon final, an Olympic silver aswell as several other titles on the WTA tour and you get the picture just how good Kerber is this season.

Kerber’s head to head results versus Kvitova aswell as the chance of becoming 1st on the WTA rankings aswell as her superior shape this season makes us here at Bettingviking think that Kerber to win this fixture is one of the best bets so far of the 2016 US Open.

Angelique Kerber to win @ 1.46

Angelique Kerber to win @ -220

Kerber vs Kvitova prediction

Johanna Konta vs Anastasija Sevastova prediction:

Yet another interesting fixture and the viking’s prediction for this match is that it ends in over 2 sets. Konta has had quite a good season and quite recently beat Venus Williams for the WTA Stanford title. On the other hand we have Sevastova who will have the confidence boost of defeating Muguruza in straight sets earlier in the tournament.

If you’re looking for pure value in this match then consider taking Sevastova as the out right winner of the match just for the juice.
